The situation of children in Morocco is still very fragile today, which is all the more worrying in a context where 50% of the population is under 20 years of age and where there is significant population growth. "As a result of heavy rural immigration, urban poverty, the breakdown of the extended family and early work, street children have become a common sight in most of Morocco's major cities. »
The following are some of the observations made by UNICEF concerning the situation of children in Morocco:
-
The majority of the country's children are deprived of one or two rights enshrined in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
-
40.3% is the rate of multidimensional poverty (2 or more deprivations) of children, 69% of whom live in rural areas and 17.7% in urban areas.
-
65% of children who belong to a poor or vulnerable family are deprived of multiple rights, compared to 34.6% for other children.
-
Nearly one child in two has no health insurance. The other deprivations they suffer are housing (32.4%), nutrition (27.1%), water (23.4%), education (18%), health (13%), sanitation (8.3%) and information (0.6%). 12.1% of children are poor or vulnerable in monetary terms.
-
2.9% of children aged 15-17 years overlap with deprivations related to infrastructure (water, sanitation and housing).
-
1.8% of children under the age of 4 are simultaneously deprived of care, water and food.
The Fondation Apprentis d'Auteuil supports the Al Karam Association in Marrakech. This institution develops several projects to improve the living conditions of children and young people in precarious situations.
Among these activities, Al Karam supports young people who have dropped out of school with the COIP project (Cellules d'Orientation et Insertion Professionnelle).
Thanks to this project, young people first receive a general education (life project, professional orientation) and then a professional training that allows them to integrate into the world of work.
The present study seeks to determine the impact (change in living conditions) of the young people who are supported by the COIP.
Thanks to the training received at the COIP, the young people have been able within one year :
-
Increase their income by 189%, from an annual income of MAD 14,140 to MAD 40,900.
-
Increase their assets by 351%, from MAD 900 to MAD 4,055.
-
Significantly improve (+34%) their conditions of access to health care (social security).
