"Suma y multiplica": empowerment of rural women in the

Pacific Area of Nicaragua

Inter-cultur with a local partner, ANDECU, who has been working in Nicaragua, specially in Managua, Masaya and Carazo for more than 10 years,  united efforts to develop a project in that area.

The idea of the project starts from the previous knowledge that ANDECU has about the area and the right-holders. The results of that work were validated with the community.

Nicaragua has a poverty rate of 42%, being the poorest country in Central America.

Multidimensional poverty attacks especially women with an educational deficit due to school drop-out and a limited capacity for critical thinking- Women are forced to migrate, suffer social isolation and have, if any, a mere survival income.

The project has been designed to promote the empowerment of women micro entrepreneurs in the Managua, Masaya and Carazo in an inclusive manner and with effective participation for their family economic development.

The following trainings will be delivered:

- Basic courses aimed at female entrepreneurs 80 hours:

          a) 60 hours on business management and preparation of business plans.

          b) 20 hours will be targeted to respond to other two major deficits:

- A tailored micro MBA program for women micro entrepreneurs (128 hours)

- Help community leadership workshops to improve their self-esteem

- networking spaces, sale of their products and access to institutions that can give grants or loans.
